What It's About

IMG_5852.JPG

After-school care at Gibsons Farm; It's like Minecraft without the computer.
When school's out, kids don't want to be told what to do. So many young people just need space to follow their curiosity, build something cool, climb a tree or cuddle a chicken. Farm-based after school care is from 3-5:30pm daily. No screens, no curriculum, just freedom to be kids in an incredible outdoor environment under the guidance of our passionate farmers. Our Farmer Educators are extremely competent outdoor educators who are just as confident leading from behind. We believe kids are capable of so much more than our society gives them credit for.  Risky play, building fires, milking goats, making pizza in a wood oven, and using knives and construction tools are things we like to provide space for.

Parents, here's the nitty-gritty..

Drop-Off and Pick-up

Children can arrive at the farm between 2:45 and 3:15. There is a school bus drop off at the farm for Gibsons Elementary only (currently the bus company doesn't offer Langdale students the opportunity to switch to the Gibsons bus - but worth an ask). Whether arriving on their own, a carpool, by bus, or being dropped off, please let us know how they will be arriving on a given day (if it is different from what you specified on your intake form).

What to bring

A backpack with water bottle, and warm layers and rain jacket.

What We Provide

Healthy after school snack (likely made by the kids from farm ingredients). 2 Educators to 16 students (with some older mentors) and other farmers onsite for backup support.

"Risky things" you should know your child might choose to do at the farm (definitely not an exhaustive list, but to give you an idea!)

Chop wood, cook over an open fire with harvested ingredients, handle and be around typical farm livestock, create forts and play in the forest, build things with construction tools, climb trees, be in and around ponds and moving water.

Our Cancelation Policy -

Cancellations with three weeks notice or more will be refunded at 50%.

The prices below are 50% below our cost of running the program. Thank you to Free To Play for funding our new Gibsons Farm School Society.  We do appreciate donations of materials, food, skilled labour, and money to give Coast kids an even more awesome experience.
